Alpharetta is taking bold steps to reimagine the North Point corridor as a vibrant, mixed-use district with a strong focus on walkability, green spaces, and community connection.

On March 3, city officials reviewed the latest version of the North Point Development Framework, a plan developed over the past eight months by consulting firm Starr Whitehouse. The proposal builds on previous revitalization efforts and focuses on converting car-centric spaces into people-friendly, urban environments.

At the heart of the plan is a strong connection to the Big Creek Greenway, with proposed trails linking a network of parks and gathering areas—all accessible within a five-minute walk. Stormwater features like retention ponds, rain gardens, and streams will double as relaxing green spaces for residents and visitors.

The district is set to include:

  • Tree-lined, pedestrian-friendly streets

  • Shared-use paths for cyclists

  • Multi-use buildings with retail, office, and residential spaces

  • New housing options like townhomes and walk-ups

  • Garages hidden within development blocks

This transformation is especially significant for the aging North Point Mall, once a bustling retail hub that has struggled to compete with nearby developments like Avalon. Plans for redeveloping the mall could emerge this year, and there’s even buzz about attracting an NHL franchise to anchor a larger entertainment-focused development.

With a clear vision and community-driven framework, Alpharetta is laying the foundation for a thriving, future-forward North Point.
